This is the best type of Tens Unit I have ever used. It took years for my first one to wear out. Tried another type once and went back to this one.

After my husbands recent knee surgery his P.T. started using one of theses but in bigger scale, it helped my husband immensely so I purchased this one. We couldn't be happier with its performance he is well on his way to recovery and his P.T said it was a great idea to have one at home for personal use. Smartest purchase I ever made. Was a great deal pricing wise and would wholeheartedly recommend it.

TENS units relieve pain by sending electrical shocks to a target area through adhesive electrode pads. These shocks stimulate the body's nerves, which has two effects:

  • Endorphin release: The body's chemical reduces pain, makes us feel happier, and enhances our immune response.
  • Pain gating: TENS units activate larger nerve fibers with their tingling/massage sensation, blocking pain signals from reaching your brain. This temporarily reduces our pain perception.

EMS devices also use electrical stimulation. However, their electrical shock causes muscles to contract. This works the muscles and helps strengthen them.

While both devices use electrical stimulation, they achieve different results. TENS units are for pain relief only, whereas EMS machines are used to stimulate, strengthen/tone, and rehabilitate muscles.

Choosing your personal TENS unit will depend entirely on your needs and preferences. It might be worthwhile consulting your doctor for their professional opinion. Some key things to consider include the following:

  • Your goal: Are you looking to block pain, rehabilitate an injury, or both? Remember, TENS only blocks pain, and EMS strengthens/rehabilitates muscles. We offer devices that do both and devices with massage modes.
  • Your condition & target area: Larger target areas will require a device that can use more electrodes, also known as channels. A single or dual-channel device will suffice for those with smaller target areas.
  • Battery type: We offer various TENS unit machines with different battery types. We offer rechargeable, non-rechargeable, AAA, and cell battery-powered devices.

There are many things to consider beyond those mentioned above. We suggest reading our buying guide, which encompasses all the essential information to understand better what to search for.

No, our devices are OTC TENS units and do not require a prescription from a doctor.

Unfortunately, we are unable to accept insurance payments. However, our devices are FSA/HSA eligible and can be reimbursed. It's very common for TENS units to be covered by insurance. We recommend reading our article on how to get your TENS unit covered by insurance to learn more about the process.

All of our home TENS units are FDA approved.

We don't create just the highest-rated TENS units and call it quits. All of our devices come in a complete kit, which includes the following:

  • The required electrodes
  • A carrying case/bag
  • Lead wires
  • Batteries
  • And instructions to get your pain management started.

Check the description of your preferred device for more details. By nature, your electrodes will lose their stickiness over time. We offer a full lineup of replacement electrodes here.
